Remember, remember, the 5th of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot ;
I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

To blow up the King and the Parliament.

"Remember Remember" refere-se a Guy Fawkes, quem no dia 5 de Novembro de 1605 foi pego tentando explodir o Parlamento inglês. Guy Fawkes foi julgado como traidor e condenado à execusão, sendo enforcado e esquartejado, para mostrar à população a gravidade do crime de traição. A partir do ano seguinte tornou-se tradição o rei ou o parlamento proferir um sermão para comemorar o evento. Essa prática, assim como a rima, seriam para que o crime jamais fosse esquecido. "Remember , remember the 5th of November". Serve como um aviso às novas gerações de que a traição jamais será perdoada.
